How Scotland’s Migration Service worked with South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) to help employers and investors understand their options for recruiting and retaining international talent.
Employers across the South of Scotland can face challenges finding the skilled people they need locally. International recruitment can be one way to address workforce needs, but the immigration system and sponsorship process can feel complex for organisations considering it for the first time.
To help employers better understand their options, Scotland’s Migration Service worked with SOSE to share a free webinar for employers and investors in the region.
Introducing practical options for employers
The webinar, delivered by Seraphus on behalf of Scotland’s Migration Service, gave employers a practical introduction to recruiting international workers and planning for future workforce needs.
The session covered:
- how the Skilled Worker visa works for employers
- what a sponsor licence is and when it is needed
- salary requirements for sponsored roles
- options for recruiting people who already have the right to work in the UK
- Temporary Worker visa routes for sector-specific needs
- factors to consider when planning for long-term recruitment and retention.
The webinar also explored examples of how businesses can use international recruitment to respond to workforce challenges.
A partnership approach to supporting the region
Working with SOSE helped Scotland’s Migration Service share clear, practical immigration information with employers and investors across the South of Scotland.
Employers could learn more about the steps involved before deciding whether sponsorship or international recruitment was right for their organisation. The session was particularly relevant for SMEs, HR professionals, hiring managers and organisations experiencing skills shortages.
Further support for employers
Scotland’s Migration Service provides free support to employers across Scotland who are considering recruiting or retaining international workers. Employers can access practical guidance and book a free appointment with an immigration lawyer.
